DJ Soul Sister to Rule over krewedelusion and Everything Else!

On February 15, 2014, at approximately 7:15pm, krewedelusion, the Big Easy’s hottest new satirical parade will assemble at the Mardi Gras Zone Warehouse and then roll through the streets of the Marigny and French Quarter.

We are honored,” Captain Oscar Diggs announced today, “that New Orleans native and internationally renowned superstar disc jockey Melissa Weber shall be our next Ruler and shall be crowned SOUL SISTER #1 & CAPTAIN OF NEW ORLEANS.”

Known worldwide as the “queen of rare groove,” she has hosted the “Soul Power” show on WWOZ FM for nearly two decades. A respected authority on music, she spins nationally for acts ranging from George Clinton to Galactic to Chuck Brown to Maceo Parker. She is an advocate of the nonprofit Women With A Vision and an outspoken critic of the politics of the New Orleans Noise Ordinance, after having to move her beloved “HUSTLE Party,” a Mimi’s in the Marigny fixture for nine years, due to this unresolved issue.

“Five years after we planted the seeds of revolution, we can now enjoy the fruits of our labor,” the Captain continued. “If you ever wanted to start your own satirical krewe, this is the club with which to do it.” Without missing a beat, their soon-to-be Ruler announced, “Don’t take no mess Mardi Gras 2014! I will be debuting my own inner krewe: The Krewe of King James. The Super Bad Strolling Sex Machines will get it on up for the King James Brown, Soul Brother #1! Other krewedelusion inner krewes include the AlKreweists, Krewe of Bananas, Krewe of Bottom Feeders, Chicken Flockers, F.U.M.A., Krewe of Crustaceous Desire, Guise of Fawkes, Krewe of Goddesses, Krewe du Jieux, Crude Oilusion, Love Spells, Krewe du Sue, Krewe de Muu Muu, The Pony Girls, Krewe of Seuss and, debuting for the first time, Tap Dat! krewedelusion is also committed to supporting new up-and-coming brass bands by giving them an opportunity to perform before a large audience.

As part of their mission to save the Universe, krewedelusion puts the “green” in purple, green & gold by using only hand-fashioned satirical throws and recycled or handmade paper beads. Moreover, the floats are hand-/tricycle-pulled using neither fossil fuels nor mules. Embracing inclusivity, dues to join krewedelusion are currently a mere $60.00. Keeping its annual parade theme a guarded secret until the start of the parade, krewedelusion has blossomed under what the Times-Picayune described as “a heady self-made philosophy and governance that declares the Big Easy the center of the Universe …” and [by giving their Ruler absolute power of absolutely everything] that “takes the time-honored conceit of Carnival royalty to its most literal and absurd endpoint … They are using the traditional structure of Mardi Gras as its own satirical platform.”
